2025
The Nacogdoches Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) hosts a national competition for students to participate in while focusing on the History of the United States. Each year they provide a theme and students create art associated with the given theme. This year’s theme was “Sailing with the Stars and Stripes to Celebrate the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corp”.
Eleven Cushing Elementary students won with their artwork: Kindergarten won 1st place locally and in state for their group banner: Ryleigh Campbell, Asher Lunday, Mathew Smallwood, and Blair Seale. First grader, Kayden Serna, won 1st place locally, and 2nd place in state, for his poster. Second grader, Elaine Baldovino, won 1st place in local and state for her poster. Third graders, Owen McQueen, Emilia Nizovtcev, and Nicki Webb won 1st place locally for their banner. Fourth grader, Adelynn Foster won 1st place locally for her poster.
