The first Bearkat Football team took the field in 1947. It was a new and exciting time for Cushing. Most of the players had never seen a game, much less played in one. They wore hand-me-down uniforms and helmets donated by the SFA football team, which explains why Cushing colors are purple and white.

At left, members of the first team were honored by the CISD Student Council at the November 2nd football game.  Team members, family, and friends gathered in the stands at the 50 yard line in a special section reserved for them.  In attendance were Keifer Richards,
Bobby Joe Boley, Arvle Neal Corley (Minnesota), Jerry Neill, Rayford Perry, Family of Archie Denny, Family of Bill Beck, Willie B. Kinney, Lester Nichols, Family of Coach James Rogers, Travis Gresham, Ray Partin,
Bryan (Jake) Gatlin, Norman Stevenson, and Wayne Stover.

Cushing Pre-K and Kindergarten classes took a field trip to the Moore Farms Pumpkin Patch in Bullard on October 17th.  They learned how to raise pumpkins and about the different kinds of pumpkins and gourds.  They visited several different stations set up at the farm to learn about farm implements used for planting and growing pumpkins.  Students tried pulling an old plow to see how hard it was to farm the old-fashioned way. Afterwards, they took a hay ride to the field to pick out their own personal pumpkin.  More pics
